Setting up team roles and permissions

Learn how to invite team members, assign roles, and configure granular access control in Obsidyun.

Understanding roles in Obsidyun

Obsidyun uses a role-based access control system. Every team member is assigned a role that determines what they can see and do across the platform. The built-in roles are Admin, Manager, Employee, and Viewer, each with different default permissions.

  • Admin: Full access to all features and settings, including user management
  • Manager: Access to team management, business analytics, and operations
  • Employee: Standard access to assigned tasks and core features
  • Viewer: Read-only access to reports and public information

Inviting team members

Navigate to the team management section and invite members by entering their email address and assigning a role. Each team member logs in with their own email and credentials. When someone joins, the permissions from their assigned role apply immediately.

Granular permission control

Beyond the default roles, you can configure permissions at the module, action, and even field level. For example, you might allow a sales team member to view customer data and process orders, but restrict access to financial reports and system settings.

  • Module-level access restrictions (e.g., Financial Reports, Inventory, Purchase Orders)
  • Action-level permission control (view, create, edit, delete)
  • Role-based permission templates that apply on assignment
  • Access audit logging to track who accessed what and when

Multi-branch access

If your business operates across multiple locations, you can restrict team members to specific branches. Each branch can have its own staff assignments, and managers can view team activity across the branches they oversee.

Task assignment and scheduling

Once your team is set up, you can create tasks with due dates, priorities, and attachments, then assign them to specific team members. Tasks can be linked to customers, orders, or invoices for context. Deadlines automatically appear on the assigned team member's calendar.
